The first-instance verdict in the Ko Wen-je case was announced at 2:30 pm on the 26th. A weekly magazine reporter estimated that Ko Wen-je would be sentenced to 15 years, Ying Hsiao-wei to 12 years, Li Wen-tsung (the chief accountant) to 8 years, and Shen Ching-ching to 8 years. Attorney Xu Wanwei of Fidelity Law Firm stated, "Shen Qingjing may be involved in bribery for breach of duty in the Jinghua City case, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment. Misappropriating funds from Sinopec to pay Jinghua City may constitute a special breach of trust offense under the Securities and Exchange Act. Given the amount involved exceeds NT$100 million, the statutory penalty is over seven years imprisonment. Therefore, media predictions that he may be sentenced to eight years imprisonment are not without basis." Whether Shen Qingjing's sentence is legally justified will be revealed on the afternoon of the 26th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
