Li Yusheng, an attorney at Fidelity Law Firm, stated that the perpetrator in this case used online fraud to trick people into handing over money, a crime punishable by aggravated fraud under the criminal code. According to the law, this offense carries a prison sentence of between one and seven years, and a fine of up to NT$1 million. However, because fraudsters often use dummy accounts to collect payments, police are often unable to track them.
