A lawyer was involved in a "leakage of information" scandal! The popular online celebrity "Xianta Lawyer" Li Yi-chen was found by the Taipei Prosecutors' Office to have helped the main suspect sell stolen goods and even leaked the progress of the investigation to other members who had not yet appeared in court when defending members of a columbarium fraud group. After being re-interrogated by the prosecutors, Li Yi-chen was released on bail of NT$700,000 and was restricted from leaving the country and going to sea. The other two lawyers were released on bail of NT$500,000 and NT$100,000 respectively and are awaiting trial.
Li Yusheng, a lawyer at Fidelity Law Office, said that a lawyer's duty is to provide legal assistance to clients who do not understand the legal procedures so that the client can get a fair trial. However, lawyers' defense needs to abide by legal and moral boundaries. If a lawyer instigates a client to conceal facts, forge evidence or destroy evidence, or even provides the interrogation content to other accomplices to collude or give false testimony, it constitutes a crime and exceeds the boundaries of lawyers' defense. If a lawyer provides the interrogation content to other accomplices or related persons, it will be involved in the crime of leaking secrets under the criminal law and will be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than one year, detention or a fine of not more than 9,000 yuan.
