Hsinchu Mayor Kao Hung-an was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison and deprived of her civil rights for four years in the first instance for embezzling assistant fees. She is currently suspended from office. However, she denied the crime and appealed. Today (the 16th), the second instance verdict was announced, reversing the acquittal on the embezzlement part. She was also sentenced to 6 months for causing public officials to make false records, which can be commuted to a fine of NT$180,000. Kao Hung-an responded that she will complete the reinstatement process as soon as possible. However, the prosecution also stated that it is considering appealing, and the mayor's reinstatement may still be uncertain.
