Former People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je had his bail revoked by the High Court yesterday (12th). His detention hearing will resume at 10 am on Monday. On the same day, DPP Taipei City Councilor Chen Yi-jun was directly ordered by the High Court to release her on bail of NT$1 million, which has also caused the People's Party to question whether it is a double standard! The ruling states that Ko Wen-je's case involves cases such as the Jinghua City case and political donations, and he has not yet completed the questioning of witnesses and has not confessed to the crime from beginning to end. Chen Yi-jun's case is relatively simple. She is suspected of fraudulently claiming assistant fees and has confessed to the crime.
Li Yusheng, a lawyer at Fidelity Law Offices, said that when the judge assesses whether the defendant should be released on bail, he or she will consider the complexity of the case, whether the defendant has pleaded guilty, and whether the defendant has suspected contact with other witnesses. If the case is more complicated, the defendant has not pleaded guilty, and the defendant has had contact with other witnesses, the judge will believe that there is a possibility of collusion between the defendants and will be more likely to detain the defendant without granting bail.
