Chen Yijun, a Taipei City Councilor from the Democratic Progressive Party, was recently found by prosecutors to have used four relatives and friends as headhunters to defraud nearly NT$3 million in assistant fees since 2019. She was detained by the Shilin District Prosecutor's Office. Initially, the Court of Appeals ruled that the bail should be NT$1 million. The prosecutor appealed and the High Court sent the case back for retrial. The second court session was held this afternoon (20th), and the ruling was changed to detain Chen Yijun without permission from visitors.

Attorney Li Yusheng of Fidelity Law Offices said that the prosecutor appealed the original bail decision, probably because he believed that Chen Yijun was a legislator and if he was released on bail, he might still use his influence to prevent other witnesses from making correct statements, and might collude with other accomplices or witnesses to affect judicial justice. Therefore, he believed that detention was necessary. The High Court has sent the case back, and the local court also believed that the detention requirements were met, so it ruled to detain him without permission.
