News Summary

Significant progress has been made in the Tzu Chi Foundation's NT$1.06 billion BNT vaccine fraud case! Li Yiru, the vaccine broker suspected of conspiring to defraud and playing a key role, is suspected of fleeing the country and hiding in Hong Kong after the incident. The Investigation Bureau has officially listed him as a fugitive and has released his wanted photo.

Lawyer Li Yusheng explains

Attorney Li Yu-sheng of Fidelity Law Firm stated that in such major fraud cases, if the defendant flees overseas after committing the crime, the likelihood of being detained by the court upon their return to Taiwan is very high due to the very concrete fact of their escape. Furthermore, given the severity of the fraud in this case, with proceeds exceeding one billion NT dollars, if the defendant fails to compensate the victims, coupled with their escape and clearly poor attitude after committing the crime, the likelihood of a severe sentence is very high. The fraud and money laundering charges could carry a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, and the specific number of criminal acts will be determined for each charge.
