A resident in New Taipei City ordered food through a delivery platform late at night because he was hungry. He discovered that the delivery driver had poured rainwater from his shoes into the food and then picked out mud and sand from his feet and added it in as well. When the resident caught him in the act, the delivery driver claimed that he was upset about delivering food in the rain and that's why he did it.

Lawyer Li Yusheng of Fidelity Law Firm stated that the delivery driver's act of pouring dirty rainwater into the delivered food, rendering it inedible, constitutes the crime of property damage under criminal law, punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, detention, or a fine of up to NT$15,000. Furthermore, both the delivery platform and the delivery driver are jointly liable to the consumer for civil damages.
