Li Yusheng, an attorney at Fidelity Law Firm, stated that the perpetrator in this case was involved in the crime of hit-and-run, for which the statutory sentence is more than 6 months but less than 5 years. However, because the perpetrator had confessed to the crime and reached a settlement with the victim, the judge sentenced him to a minimum of 6 months in prison, which was commuted to a fine and suspended sentence. On the contrary, in other hit-and-run cases, if the perpetrator had not reached a settlement with the victim, did not admit the crime, and caused serious harm to the victim, he could still be sentenced to a maximum of 5 years in prison.
