Lin Rui-xiang, a top student from National Taiwan University, was arrested in the United States in 2024 for setting up a dark web platform to traffic drugs. He has now been sentenced to 30 years in prison by a federal court. During the trial, he pleaded guilty in court and wrote a letter to the judge pleading for leniency and asking for a second chance. However, the judge stated during the sentencing that this was the most serious drug crime in his 27-year judicial career! Lin Rui-xiang is also wanted by Taiwanese prosecutors and investigators. His NT$60 million mansion in Tianmu and the money he transferred to his family have been seized. Even after serving his sentence in the United States, he will still face prosecution in Taiwan.

Attorney Li Yusheng of Fidelity Law Firm stated that Lin Ruixiang, a Taiwanese man, was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the New York Federal Court on charges of drug distribution, money laundering, and trafficking in improper drugs. After his release, he will be subject to five years of supervision and the confiscation of over US$100 million in assets. Because these are serious drug crimes, even after he completes his sentence in the United States and returns to Taiwan, he will still have to undergo trial and prosecution by the Taiwanese judicial system. However, the time he served abroad may be credited towards his sentence in Taiwan.
