The Taipei District Court held a hearing today (13th) to hear the Jinghua City case. It again summoned Zhu Yahu, the only former chairman of Dingyue Development who admitted to bribery, to testify, and summoned six defendants including former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, continuing the cross-examination session last Thursday (5/8). However, when Zhu Yahu was questioned by his lawyer about how he knew that Ying Hsiao-wei and Ko Wen-je had discussed the Jinghua City case in private, he still replied that it was just speculation, but emphasized that Mayor Ko would not refuse to answer the councilor's call.
Liu Yiling, an attorney at Fidelity Law Firm, said that Zhu Yahu may have made truthful statements during the investigation process, which led the judge to agree to release him on bail. However, during the trial, he overturned his previous statement and said that he was just guessing. If Zhu Yahu's testimony was inconsistent, his testimony might not be used to prove that the other defendants were guilty, which would increase the difficulty of the prosecutor in presenting evidence. However, his inconsistent statements would also give the judge a bad impression, thinking that he had a bad attitude and therefore impose a heavier sentence.
