A Taipei man complained online that his online purchase turned from a pleasant surprise into a shock. He ordered a mouse from a well-known South Korean e-commerce platform that boasts "lightning-fast logistics," but when the package arrived, he found the mouse in a resealable bag containing an unidentified powder that looked like salt. Fearing it might be contraband, the man was too scared to touch it. After contacting the e-commerce platform's customer service, he received a NT$200 refund, but was then told to carefully pack the item and return it. The way the platform handled the situation left him dumbfounded.

Lawyer Liu Yiling of Fidelity Law Firm stated that if a consumer uses fraudulent means to switch out a product during the online shopping period and return it, keeping the original product for themselves, the store may be guilty of aggravated fraud under the Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of not less than one year and not more than seven years and a fine of not more than NT$1 million. Since stores have records of product returns and exchanges, it is not too difficult to find the perpetrator.
