According to Next TV, a pharmacist surnamed Chen in Tamsui, New Taipei City, was previously detained and held incommunicado by court order on suspicion of drugging a female college student. After expanding their investigation and contacting 16 female part-time workers who had previously worked at the pharmacy, four more former employees filed charges. One claimed that the pharmacist took advantage of the fact that only two people were in the store and forced her to undress before sexually assaulting her. The other three stated that they were touched on the buttocks, waist, or chest while working at the counter. Police have assisted the four in taking statements and filing charges; the allegations are still pending investigation by prosecutors and the court's determination.
Attorney Li Yusheng of Fidelity Law Firm stated that if the investigation concludes that the perpetrator committed sexual assault or harassment against different victims at different times, in principle, each act would be prosecuted separately, and the sentence would be determined according to the provisions of the Criminal Code regarding multiple offenses. The specific charge will depend on whether there was rape, coercion, or other means against the victim's will; whether the perpetrator exploited the power or opportunity between the employer and employee; and evidence regarding the parts of the body touched, the manner of the act, and the victim's consent. Statements from multiple victims that corroborate each other in terms of time, place, method, or post-offense communication may be crucial evidence, but guilt cannot be presumed solely based on the number of accusations; each accusation must be verified individually. This type of case...Sexual assault casesIn such cases, evidence such as surveillance footage, communication records, medical records, or psychological counseling information should be preserved as soon as possible.
