A video circulating online shows a convenience store clerk sorting packages. Too lazy to pick them up, the clerk scans the barcodes and simply tosses them behind him. If the package isn't in the right spot, he picks it up, runs, and throws it again. The package is tossed around like a ball, flying over the shelf. The person filming the video not only doesn't stop him but also makes sarcastic remarks. The video has sparked heated discussions among netizens. However, the convenience store responded that this was the "personal behavior" of an employee who left the company two years ago and that they will strengthen training for such employees.
Lawyer Liu Yiling from Fidelity Law Firm stated that if a store clerk intentionally throws packages carelessly, resulting in damage to the items, it constitutes a criminal offense of property damage, punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, detention, or a fine of up to NT$15,000. Although it is the employee's individual act, if the consumer seeks compensation from the store first, the store, as the employer, is still liable to compensate the consumer initially. However, the consumer can then seek compensation from the employee in question.
